Substitution Request Rules

There are 2 type of Sub Requests:

  1. Post Match Sub
    1. This is for subs required due to qualifying injury or late withdrawal.
    2. This must be submitted within 24hrs of the match completion. While it is generally submitted after the match is complete, it can be submitted earlier
    3. They will generally be enacted by Sub Master 24hrs after the end of the round (usually Monday night)
  2. Mid-Match Sub – during Partial Lockout
    1. This is occasionally required when The Bench inappropriately locks a player(s) during the partial lockout period before they have played (when they are actually eligible for change by the coach).
    2. Sub requests must be submitted before the AFL Clubs of the relevant players being subbed in or out have played.

Information Required

  1. Post Match Subs
    1. Name of player you wish to sub in (from your bench)
    2. FieldPosition you wish to sub into
    3. Name of player you was originally playing in this position, qualifying for substitution.
    4. If an auto-sub has already occurred by the bench, also provide name of player who has been auto-subbed into that position
  2. Mid-Match Subs
    1. Points 1-3 above plus information regarding who needs replacement on the bench (if required).

Place to Request Subs

  • All Subs (Mid-Match & Post-Match) must be requested on The Bench to provide an audit trail. It is advisable to also send a brief message that you’ve done this on the HFFL Banter group.

Sub Master & Coaching Responsibilities

  • Sub Master: Koach has been appointed as the “Sub Master” and will enact substitutions if the above requirements are followed
  • Sub legality: Note that in general we work on an honour system regarding submissions for substitution and for it to be worked out between opposing coaches. Sub Master won’t be double checking all requests but may choose to do so if a query or disagreement is unsettled between coaches or there is obvious tom foolery.
    • In rare cases the matter may be referred by Sub Master or disagreeing/unsure coaches to the Administrator.
  • Coaches must submit sub requests in the above mentioned time periods.
