Despite not voting, special comment by Roofa:

“I think this is the worst rule and decision in the history of the HFFL and will lead to inequality you say it is trying to fix. I do hope I am proven wrong and will completely admit it I am. “

The Pre-PSD Draft

Rule Vote:
That after the lottery balls have been drawn, the resultant draft order entitles coaches to choose their 1st round picks, in that order.
– so by picking your first round pick you are also automatically selecting all your picks e.g if you select pick 1, you will also get picks 20, 21, 40, 41 etc.
– this will occur via a brief online Whatsapp draft
Rule Passed 6-1
Yes: Emperor, Rosco, Sammy, Tobes, Twadds, Karl
No: Mick
This rule will start at the 2019 PSD

Regular season HGA suspended indefinitely

Currently the bench has no facility for calculating Home Ground Advantage (HGA). This creates extra admin work post game and complicates subbing.

With subbing we can make changes post game and it auto recalculates the score. However if we have applied HGA already, we can not do this because applying HGA means I have to manually override the scores and then this ceases auto calculations.

So in summary, as the bench currently stands, HGA is creating too much administrative work and complicating our ability to easily do subs post game.

I therefore am temporarily but indefinitely suspending regular season HGA until such time as the bench creates a facility for its easy application. I had planned to request this of the bench post season last season but forgot to.

“Reading the room” I don’t think the coaches will be devastated.

Please note that for finals HGA will still apply as it was earned (except for the GF). I’m agreeable to do the extra administrative work in finals due to its importance.

2018 Position Scoring Clarified

With the change to the tackling position post 2017 season and previous major position changes post the 2016 season I thought it useful to outline all our positions and how they score.
We have 2 forwards and 2 midfielders and 1 of every other position making 10 positions on field. We also have 4 subs.
Each position below (except the Forward) also has 2 x FA’s taken off their score post the calculations outlined below. Forwards are not penalised for FA.
A picture of the 2017 Dark Side Premiership team is included below demonstrating the positions.
Forwards: (6 x Goals) + (1 x Behinds)
Half-Forward: (I50 x 3) + (Goals x 2) + (Marks x 1)
Marker: 4 x Marks
Midfielders: Disposals x 1
Extractor: (specialised midfielder): (Disposals/2) + (Clearances x 3)
Tackler*: Tackles x 5
Half-Back: (R50 x 3) + (I50 x 1)
Utility: ((Disposals) + (Marks x 4) + (Tackles x 5) + (Goals x 6) + (Behinds) + (Hit Outs))/2
R50 = Rebounds from defensive 50
I50 = Inside 50’s
*Note this is the last season of the tackler position. In 2019 it changes to a Tackling Midfielder as per this vote

Dark Side 2017 Premiership Team

Retentions allowed for PSD 2018 onwards

6 standard players with the following restrictions:

1. Only 1 can be elite

2. A maximum of 2 top 20 players (including the Elite)

A 7th player can be retained as a Rookie

  • This player must have played 22 career games or less
  • This player may be Elite or Non-Elite

So the best combination of players you can usually retain is:

  1. 1. Elite
  2. 2. 1x 11-20 players
  3. 3. 4 x Sub-20 players
  4. 4. 1 x Rookie

These new retentions are the result of this rule change

Change to retentions: 11-20 converted to sub-20
