Check the eligibility of your retentions

Coaches,

It is your responsibility to makes sure your retentions are exactly the category you say they are (e.g. elite, 11-20, sub-20, rookie).

Use the stats sheet provided to check

You may think they are sub-20 but they may be say 11-20 in one of the new positions. So make sure you check each of the published lists.

AFL & HFFL 2016 Season Stats including Elites & Top 20

If you make a mistake your retention will be disallowed and you’ll go into the PSD at a great disadvantage. So be diligent.

HFFL MSD Date & Time Set – Kind of

– Monday 29th May
– Tuesday 30th May
– Wednesday 31st May
– All coaches are advised that the MSD will be held on one of the 3 dates above. Coaches are required to keep all 3 dates free – put them ALL in your calendars now. The exact date will be fixed closer to the time.
– The time for submitting preferences has passed.
– The exact time of the draft on that evening WST will also be determined closer to the time. It might be anything from 1900 WST (early 0600 wake up for NY – clearly not our 1st preference) to 2100 WST start.

2017 HFFL PSD Date & Time Set

HFFL PSD is set for Sunday 26th March at 2000 WST

I believe this = 2300 EST and 0800 for the NY boys but those individuals are advised to check this for themselves.

This will be between AFL R1 and R2 so that means the last game of the season will be AFL R19 and the Grand Final will be AFL R23.

Administrator Warning Re 3 New Positions

It is a momentous occasion that we have as a group taken our largest step forward in HFFL history in expanding and changing the game as we know it through the introduction of 3 new positions.

However this is not without risk. Despite best efforts in research and analysis the ability to recruit for and play these positions may be harder then expected and the results may be different than expected. The scores may be too low or too high and there may unexpectedly excessive standard deviation and problematic outliers.

Therefore please firmly expect that next season after we’ve given these positions a go there may be moves to make amendments to positions or remove them all together (for 2018). e.g.

  • if the half-back score is too low we may increase it
  • if the half-back score has too much standard deviation and lacks depth of players we might get rid of it
  • if the half-forward is too lopsided with a huge “Danger” outlier and there are troubles recruiting for the position we might rejig the calculation to make it a smaller score or remove the position all together.

Obviously any changes must be by majority vote but with such a big change now, please do expect that changes later may occur.

So PRICE THIS RISK IN when you make you retention and recruiting decisions. ie if you recruit Dangerfield and then we end up getting rid of the Half-forward, don’t complain … you have been warned!

With that warning out of the way – enjoy the brave new world of the HFFL. It will be a cracker! I’m excited!

Warm Regards,
