Festival of Footy (FoF) Administrative Rulings

This is a unique period with daily games and official teams coming out each day rather than as a bulk release. It requires unique solutions. The following rule modifications shall apply as Administrative Ruling by Logistix:

RULING 1: Coaches are expected to check the daily teams and make modifications as necessary to their teams. Only players named in the official daily teams are eligible to score points or be subbed/replaced from the bench.

RULING 2: If a player that a coach has named in their team is not named in the official AFL team release (let’s call this Player X), they can replace Player X in one of 3 ways:

1) From a squad player outside of their bench who has not played

2) From a bench player who has not played

3) From a bench player who has played as long as Player X was named under the Good Faith Naming rule, with a strict interpretation of this rule as follows:

  • Player X must have had a reasonable chance of playing e.g. returning from suspension, listed as “test” on afl official injury list
  • It would be a reasonable choice for the coach to name Player X in that position on field given the players they have available. e.g. if you named a player who is clearly not a forward as a forward and also stacked the bench with clearly better forwards, this would not be Good Faith naming.
  • The replacement of Player X should occur before the AFL team that Player X plays for starts playing. i.e. before Player X effectively becomes an illegal player on the field. In accordance with the first requirement to check the daily teams, this will generally mean you need to action rapidly within 12-24hrs.

If the bench has locked any of the players you wish to change under these rules, clearly request the player replacement on the bench banter + send a whatsapp message to alert Sub-Master & Administrator to your request.

Note that none of the above FoF modifications affect our usual ability to substitute players post game using any player on our bench in the case of late withdrawals or injured players.

ADDENDUM 17/8/20
RULING 3

The Partial Lockout has effectively become a Rolling Lockout for both eligible and ineligible players

Eligible players: You have until their game starts to replace them

Ineligible players: You have until they become officially ineligible to replace them.

  • For players from teams playing in that round, they become ineligible when their team starts playing.
  • For players from teams with a bye, they become ineligible when the rounds starts.

2020 MSD Dates & Draft Plan Set

MSD Dates

MSD Time: Wed 22nd July at 8pm AWST
Venue: Twadds’ place

Trade Period: Opens at the 8:30pm AWST on Monday 20th July AWST

Trading & Delistings Deadline: Wednesday July 22nd 1200 AWST

Give the short official trade period it is recommended that trade discussions commence before the official trade period starts. Trades just can’t be formally lodged with HFFL Admin until the trade period.

Draft Order

Due to the challenges posed by the COVID shortened season and change to MSD timing the MSD Draft Order will be as follows:

  • The draft order will be 10th-1st for the first 2 rounds then snake. e.g
    • Round 1: 10th to 1st
    • Round 2: 10th to 1st
    • Round 3: 1st to 10th
    • Round 4: 10th to 1st
    • Round 5 1st to 10th etc
  • To clarify, the key difference to previous years is that
    • There is no random draw
    • The only difference is that Round 2 is 10th to 1st rather than a random draw.
    • The snake then starts at the exact same time as always (Round 3)

Delisting Process

Go to our HFFL 2020 Drafting Googlesheet

Click on column G to select it (Player Picked)

Perform Find function (Apple +F or Ctrl+F) and type the name of player you want to delist to locate

Then cut & paste their name from their cell and move 2 cells over into the Delisted column (Column I).

This will show they have been delisted and by them being removed from the Player Picked column it will return them to the list of available players for drafting

Then go to thebench and go to “Squad” and click the bin icon next to your player

HFFL Retentions & Compensation Picks 2020

The Retention deadline will be Friday 28th February at 2200 AWST.
Due to the earlier PSD, the need to have the Pre-PSD Draft Pick draft and admin processing the Retentions Deadline is required to be relatively early this year. In addition the PSD itself is relatively early.

Injury AllowancesAs a result I’ve decided to provide some allowance for injuries this year as follows:

– if you retain a player and they receive a significant injury up to 5pm on PSD night, you can choose to delist them and be awarded the relevant compensation pick instead.

– if you draft a player at the PSD and they receive a significant injury up to the beginning of Round 1, you can choose to delist them and draft an undrafted player.

Posting RetentionsThis year Retentions will only need to be posted in one place, the google drafting sheet – HFFL 2020 drafts. They do not need posting on the hfflonline.com website.
The google sheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hbae2bV0HXxwZ4eHdHtUXyVoEob_DcT3bUC29KPjAUM/edit#gid=0
You’ve all been invited to this sheet. Heath and Twadds I used both your emails including your gmail ones.
After the retentions deadline has passed, you should then draft them to your team on the bench.
I strongly advise all coaches to submit their retentions now as you can always change them later up until the deadline.

Compensation Picks

This is the first season we have introduced compensation picks – if you choose not to retain a player in any of the specified ranking categories that you are allowed to retain, you receive a compensation draft pick instead. The compo picks have been designed to be very fair so as general rules:

  1. If you have a player you predict will finish this season near the top end of their current stats ranking group (or above it) —> RETAIN THEM
    1. E.g. you have a player who is an 11-20 ranked player, finished 17th but they are young and improving and you expect them to finish higher like 11th/12th or maybe even in the next higher category (Elite) then you should retain them.
  2. If you have a player who does to fit the above criteria —> DELIST them
    1. E.g. you have a player who finished 17th in the 11-20 group and you don’t expect any improvement —> delist

The only exception is that there are 2 mandatory sub-30 retentions so you must choose your best 2 sub-30 players and retain them regardless of whether they are good/promising or not. This was made part of the retentions rules to minimise the length of the draft in the new compo pick system.

The template for the draft/compo picks, with an example of retentions for each team (in blue at the bottom) and the resultant compensation picks in the green rows above, are shown here
http://hfflonline.com/spreadsheet-for-retentions-compo-picks-from-2020/

HFFL Pre-PSD Draft Order

  1. Roofa’s Squadron
  2. Lyle’s team
  3. Mayblooms
  4. Rhubabarians
  5. Twaddstars
  6. Real Saints
  7. Karl’s Krushers
  8. Dark Side
  9. Mustard Pots
  10. Rapid Sossage

This determines the order in which coaches can select their 1st round draft pick (the pick not the player) and all their resultant draft picks are created automatically.

Summary of current HFFL Positions & Scoring (for season 2020)

Coaches select a squad of 23 players.
Each week coaches name 10 starting players on field and 4 bench players

The starting field players are:
– 2 Forwards
– 1 Half Forward
– 1 Marker
– 1 Extractor (specialised midfielder)
– 2 Midfielders
– 1 Tackler (specialised midfielder)
– 1 Half-Back
– 1 Utility

Scoring
The players score as follows, noting all positions have 2 x Frees Against removed from their score except forwards who are exempt:
– Forwards: 6 x goals + 1 x points
– Half Forwards: 4 x goals + 4 x I50
– Markers: 4 x marks
– Extractor: Disposals/2 + 3 x Clearances
– Midfielders: 1 x disposals
– Tackler: Disposals/2 + 3 x Tackles
– Half Back: 3 x R50 + 1 x I50
– Utility: 3 x Goals + 0.5 x points + 2 x marks + 0.5 x disposals + 2.5 x tackles + 0.4 x Hit Outs

Note:
R50 = Rebounds from 50 and
I50 = Inside Fifties.

Subbing:
A field player can be subbed out if one of the 2 following rules apply:

1. They were a late withdrawal from the AFL side
– for this to apply they need to have first been an eligible “named player”. This usually means they were officially named in the Thursday night AFL team lists but there are some exceptions to this rule when there are unorthodox rounds (like rounds with games on Mondays or midweek where players aren’t named on Thursday night teams).
– the reason for requiring the player to be an eligible named player is to prevent gaming of the system where coaches may name a player who they know is not going to play and benefit being able to choose from their whole bench to replace them.

2. They are injured during a game and played no more than 3/4 of a game
– it is the duty of the coach wishing to make the sub to prove that they fit this criteria, e.g. by citing AFL match reports or live AFL game feeds.

In the event a starting field player is eligible to be subbed, a coach can replace him with any player from their bench (to maximise their score).
To enact a sub, the coach must request this from the Sub-Master (Koach) within 48hrs of the end of a round.

Half-forward Reformed

The vote is:

That the HF position calculation be changed

From I50 x 3 + Goals x 2 + Marks – 2 x FA

To I50 x 4 + Goals x 4 – 2 x FA

This will start from 2020.
