Substitution Request Rules

There are 2 type of Sub Requests:

  1. Post Match Sub
    1. This is for subs required due to qualifying injury or late withdrawal.
    2. This must be submitted within 24hrs of the match completion. While it is generally submitted after the match is complete, it can be submitted earlier
    3. They will generally be enacted by Sub Master 24hrs after the end of the round (usually Monday night)
  2. Mid-Match Sub – during Partial Lockout
    1. This is occasionally required when The Bench inappropriately locks a player(s) during the partial lockout period before they have played (when they are actually eligible for change by the coach).
    2. Sub requests must be submitted before the AFL Clubs of the relevant players being subbed in or out have played.

Rule Discussion Regulation

The HFFL continues to benefit from innovation and resultant rule changes. If they are properly constructed and vetted they provide improved strategy, promote equalisation and generally increase enjoyment. As testament to this, only 1 rule change has ever been reversed (Veteran’s rule).

However constant rule discussion and votes is tiresome for many coaches and detracts from the business of playing the game. Some coaches very much enjoy innovation related banter while others do not. So we need to be able to progress innovation and cater to both those who enjoy it and don’t enjoy it. Additionally we need to have separate forums for different discussions (e.g messenger apps, email) so that only the interested/necessary parties are involved and the weekly HFFL Banter is not diluted/distracted by these discussions. With this in mind, the following are suggested new regulations regarding rule changes:

The HFFL Conundrum

In my time away from the league I have considered my position within it intently. I have had many thoughts. However I decided before withdrawing permanently I should start a discussion within the group to see if we can collectively find solutions that might create a sustainable HFFL that may last the test of time. This is not the case currently and without change it will not last.

Why Everyone Loves the HFFL:

  1. It helps us keep in contact with close mates in a way that basically nothing else can/does at this stage of our lives.
  2. The competitive enjoyment and strategic playmaking within the greatest fantasy footy comp in existence, carefully cultivated over a long history.
